Pegsitacase (formerly Uricase-PEG 20)

Pegsitacase (formerly Uricase-PEG 20) consists of a recombinant Candida utilis uricase modified with multiple molecules of PEG.

The C. utilis uricase was selected for development because of its high affinity for uric acid and high catalytic rate at physiological pH. The 20 kDa linear PEG is attached to uricase via the succinimydyl succinate linker, which has a demonstrated safety record in humans and is found on other FDA-approved pegylated drugs.

Pegsitacase has been through thorough preclinical testing and was previously tested in a phase 1 study in gout patients.
